The Critic
07/02/2008 - Hancock @TUG.n
“The Fourth of July is here again, and what better way to welcome in the long weekend than with Mr. Fourth of July himself; Will Smith. It’s another Wild Wild West sized misfire for Will Smith, but it’s not his fault. There are just too many things wrong for Smith to carry this film.”
06/27/2008 - WALL-E @TUG.n
“Pixar can do no wrong. The reigning kings of animation have done it again with WALL-E. It’s a kid’s movie with more heart than anything in recent years, save the other Pixar releases. I don’t normally feel so… how do I put it? Emotional!”
06/27/2008 - Wanted @TUG.n
“Wanted promises inane action sequences in its trailer and delivers them in spades. The slow motion effects and car chase scenes make for a glorious orgy of violence that goes excellent with a nice bucket of popcorn.”
06/24/2008 - The Incredible Hulk @TUG.n
“There isn’t much to really review here. It was as I expected, a typical summer blockbuster. That means there was little to mentally digest, but an orgy of special f/x exploding on screen. It was fun, made for a good watch but offers little beyond a better, revised version of the 2003 catastrophe.”
06/22/2008 - Get Smart @TUG.n
“Steve Carell can get me into the theatre any day of the week. Get Smart was no exception. I watched the TV show when it used to be on Nick at Nite all the time, so I was familiar with the character and the show itself. I’d been pretty excited to see this one, and wasn’t disappointed.”
05/22/2008 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull @TUG.n
“I sat in my seat and watched like a little kid, giggling at the sight gags, enjoying the one-liners, and just having a good time. I can say with great confidence that, yes it is the Indy movie we hoped for.”
05/02/2008 - Iron Man @TUG.n
“The summer blockbusters officially kick off with Iron Man and I got a chance to sneak out of my apartment and leave all the studying and books behind for a night. My expectations were pretty mediocre. After seeing Fantastic Four’s first outing, I have reasons to doubt any big budget super-hero movie. I have to say, Iron Man is definitely better than the latter, but not by much.”
04/21/2008 - The Atrocity Exhibition (Book Review)
“The novel has been met with negative criticisms and much controversy. It has been the subject of an obscenity trial in Britain, and even in the United States, J.G. Ballard’s use of the John F. Kennedy assassination as a sexualized event has left many readers offended by its content.”
04/13/2008 - 21 @TUG.n
“The story is based on a true story about some MIT students who count cards and make loads of money in Las Vegas. Of course, the events don’t all really happen and it’s mostly Hollywood-ized. Regardless, it’s a good plot with a lot of commentary on a wide variety of subjects.”
03/31/2008 - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann @TUG.n
“Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a new action/comedy/mecha anime from them that promises insane action sequences and delivers. On the surface, it’s your standard action/comedy blend.”
03/16/2008 - 10,000 B.C. @TUG.n
“Instead of an actual review, I’m going to give you five other things you could do, that would be a better use of your time than watching this movie.”
02/10/2008 - FLCL @TUG.n
“FLCL; Furi Kuri; or Fooly Cooly. Whatever you want to call it, it stands up as some of the most bizarre, yet entertaining anime ever created. It was produced by both Gainax and Production I.G., two mammoth companies. “
02/02/2008 - Groundhog Day @TUG.n
“What if you relived the same day, over and over again for an eternity? What would you do? Where would you go? The possibilities are endless. And that’s exactly what Groundhog Day puts to the test.”
01/18/2008 - Cloverfield @TUG.n
“So, where to begin? The most hyped, well marketed, and anticipated movie of the new year has finally hit theatres. A lot of mystery has surrounded this movie from the very first teaser trailer, and we finally get some answers. But did it live up to the hype?”
01/09/2008 - Juno @TUG.n
“I’m in love with Ellen Page. She carried this movie for the entire duration and she did it flawlessly.”
12/22/2007 - No Country for Old Men
“The Coen’s have really matured and nearly perfected the way to make a unique movie that is entertaining, enlightening, and beyond nearly everything else Hollywood shovels out the door.”
11/19/2007 - I Am Beowulf!
“I just got back from seeing the new Robert Zemeckis film, Beowulf. And I have to say, I was very pleased. I’m a fan of anime and animated films in general, so I was excited to see how this would play out on the big screen.”
05/04/2007 - Spider-Man 3, Midnight Showing
“I just got back from the midnight showing of Spider-Man 3. I wanted to write up a little review, but I’m left without much to really say. I’d been anticipating the release of this for the last month, watchcing the trailers grow in numbers as it got closer to release day.”
03/28/2007 - TMNT Movie Review
“Okay, so I saw the TMNT movie. It was much higher than my expectations going into it, and here’s why:”
07/08/2006 - Buried Treasure in Dead Man’s Chest
“I’m fresh back from the local Cinemark Theatre, dubbed the “Best Seat in Town,” after seeing the new Disney movie Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. I’m going to sum my feelings up into one word…”
