Sega Top Fives

Sega Genesis

5. Sonic & Knuckles

Of all the Sonic games, this had the best graphics and gameplay. Not to mention you could put any of the sonics in the top loading slot and play them all over again. Another thing to note is that Knuckles has been one of the coolest additional characters in the Sonic universe. And at that time, that glide and climbing he could do was downright awesome. This game only earns the 5 Spot because when I think of Sega, while Sonic will always be a part of that, I think of other games.

4. Comix Zone

Fun scrolling adventure game that I think had a lot to do with new great, Viewtiful Joe. In fact, the first time I saw Viewtiful Joe, I thought of this game. It had a unique style and pretty cool looking effects for the time. Viewtiful Joe, meet your daddy.

3. Mortal Kombat

The first system to be graced by this series. The first Mortal Kombat still ranks among my favorite fighting game for the Sega, and many other systems for that matter. Simpler times, these were. One button to punch, one to kick, and another to jump. Back then, that was all you needed. Unfortunately, time has not been kind to this chapter in the series. But back in the day, pure awesome.

2. Ecco the Dolphin

Awesome game. A title I’ve never been able to beat. Some levels were semi-complex for my age back then. Great graphics and cool story that kept you caring for that little dolphin. Where else does sea life become involved in a sci-fi plot?

1. (Winner Goes Here)

Cop out? Certainly. There is no way I could ever name THE BEST Sega Genesis game. Among the many possible candidates are General Chaos, Ristar, Vectorman, Golden Axe, NBA Jam TE, Earthworm Jim, etc.. This was a great system and all of the games deserve a place in the number one spot for innumerable variables.
