TMNT

With the new movie coming out, I just had to say that I love the TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). I have ever since I was little and used to watch them on TV. With their new feature film coming out, I had to go back and watch some of the classics. I just got done watching the first movie and checked out the special features on the disc. It has little biographies for each turtle; things like their likes and dislikes, favorite books and music, etc. Upon inspecting my favorite of the turtles, Raphael, I found out some of his favorites, and I have to say, he’s much cooler in my book because of them. His favorite book is Jurassic Park, by Crichton. That’s respectable. His favorite music is Rap, Punk, Grunge, and also my favorite, metal. Now, I have to say, rap and punk don’t seem so cool, but this movie was out in 1990, when rap and punk were pretty different. Rap was good back then. Old school good. And punk was much better then too, and not this punk-pop hybrid that’s so popular today. I say it’s safe to assume he’d be into hardcore as well. And wow, I mean, Raph is a metal head? Sign me up for the Raphael fan club.

But how about the other turtles you ask? Why is Raph my favorite when there are some other guys there? Because he’s the only useful guy there. Donatello is a close 2nd, but he’s a bit too brainy for me. His favorite book is by Stephen Hawking. Impressive, but a bit too heady for me. Don is useful though, so he gets some points for being the brains of the outfit. Behind him is Michaelangelo. The “party guy” of the turtles and comic relief for the series. But he can and will fight when called upon. And last, and certainly least, is Leonardo. The so-called “fearless leader.” What a waste. I mean, this guy has two swords, debatably the potent and powerful of the turtle weapons, and he hardly uses them. Sure, he’ll swing them, but he barely ever makes contact with them. What’s the point of carrying deadly weapons if you aren’t even going to use them? Answer: none. On the extras, it says his favorite book is The Art of War, by Sun Tzu. I’d wager he’s never even read it. His favorite music is classical Japanese. While that’s respectable, it does little to earn him a place in my book for being a cool turtle.

I can’t wait to see the new movie and how the individual turtles are portrayed. I’ve heard the story focuses on Raph and Leonardo, which is good for Raph, but bad for the other two. But what can one do?

So which is you favorite turtle?
