J.O.B. = What I Need

I was just offered a monumental job. Before I actually get into that, let me preface this post with something first. There is a time in everyone’s life where that perfect opportunity is given. That unknown actress meets a director while bussing tables at a coffee shop. The sudden thought of genious that enter’s an inventor’s head. These moments set those who recieve them up for life or at least give them valuable experience for the rest of life. Well my friends, I just got mine.

I met him during one of my classes. For sake anonymity, let’s call it a General Ed. class. Let’s also say his name is Jonathan. Jonathan just got out of the navy/army/marines or something, and decided he’d take some courses at college. He’s got a bunch of money, because he also plays an amateur sport. Jonathan and I always got along and joked during class, so we were pretty well acquainted. For my final project in said class, I presented a video. Cleverly editted on Mac OSX of my iBook. Apparently, this spurred an idea and led Jonathan to give me an offer. He called it a project but had to be somewhere and couldn’t talk. I assumed it was some sort of promotional video for him; as he had mentioned before that he wanted to go Pro in his sport. He told me there would be good money involved and that he’d call me later.

The next day he calls me. I’m interested in making some money, as I’m still no closer to my goal for that camera. What really got me interested though was the experience. Being able to tape and edit is something I’ll probably do heavily in my major (film/video). And then he dropped the bomb of all bombs. Porn.

His exact words from the phone call were as follows. “I have the women and money for equipment. I just need someone to edit and work the camera.” I have to admit, I was shocked at first. Me? Taping porn? Editing scenes of moaning women together? I’m only 19. Do I really want to get into the dirty business of pornography? FUCK, YES. Before you judge me, let me elaborate.

Experience. There is no better experience for working a camera and editing than actually doing it. This is a real time offer to do some camera work. I’ll also have the ability to get my editing legs pumping. On this ticket, there are no down sides.

Money. It talks the talk and walks the walk. It’s what this country is built on/with. And I need it. For a few hours of actual filming, and some extra hours at night, I can make some good money. That extra time gone? Oh well, for money it’d be worth it.

Nothing to Lose. I stand to lose nothing but some time. I’m not asked to put any money into it. He’s buying the equipment and apparently has most of this already prepared to take off. He just needs someone to point the camera and put it all together for a little distribution. I mean, even as far as my name is concerned, I shouldn’t have to worry about it. I can just as easily put William Banks as editor and camera man in the credits. I’m not worried about it.

I still haven’t told him yes yet. I’m not very certain on the all the specifics yet. I am having lunch with him tomorrow to work out all of that stuff though. Maybe discuss how much I stand to receive among some other things. I’m going to sleep on this one…
